The Story Behind 700 Sundays

Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays is a two-act, one-man play that he wrote about his parents and growing up in Long Island. The story tracks Billy Crystal from his birth through his Jewish upbringing and to the present day. He paints a vivid picture of his family: his uncle Milt, who was a major player in the jazz world; his aunt Sheila, who has a lesbian daughter and an intolerant husband; and his grandparents. His parents are the most important part. His father, Jack, died when he was 15. The title of the play refers to the amount of time he had with his father. His mother, Helen, became his greatest hero. She passed away following a stroke in 2001.

Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays will not disappoint. Crystal is a masterful storyteller with an engaging presence. It is an unforgettable show that is sharp and funny. He plays numerous characters that have influenced who he is today. It originally opened up on Broadway in December of 2004. The show has been a huge success and sells out almost every week. 700 Sundays claimed the 2005 Tony Award for Special Theatrical Experience.
