The Story Behind God Of Carnage
God of Carnage was first performed in Zurich in December of 2006 and was translated into English in March 2008. It has become the hottest play in New York and stars Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini and Marcia Gay Harden. The Broadway play opened on February 28, 2009. God of Carnage won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play, Marcia Gay Harden won the award for Best Actress and Matther Warchus won the award for Best Direction of a Play.
God of Carnage is about two 11-year-old kids, Ferdinand and Bruno, who get into an argument because Bruno won't let Ferdinand into his "gang". Bruno gets two of his teeth knocked out by Ferdinand with a stick. The two boy's parents meet that night to discuss the argument. Ferdinand's father, Alain, is a lawyer and his mother, Annette, is into spending his money. Bruno's dad, Michel, is a self-made wholesaler. His mother, Veronique is writing a book about Darfur and is also sick. The two couples spend the evening fighting about irrational things such as misogyny, racial prejudice and homophobia.
You don't want to miss out on seeing God of Carnage. It was originally scheduled to just play through July 19, 2009, but has been extended through November 15, 2009. John Lahr of the New Yorker said, "It's worth top dollar to see this 90-minutes of sustained mayhem.
