The Story Behind Jersey Boys

Jersey Boys opened on Broadway on November 6, 2005 at the August Wilson Theatre. The musical is a documentary-style show based on the lives of one of the most successful '60s rock groups of all time, the Four Seasons. Directed by Des McAnuff, artistic director at La Jolla Playhouse, the concept of the show is to use many of the group's hit songs, telling the fluctuating story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' rise to fame. The show took in over $400,000 at the box office the day after it opened as a premier at the La Jolla Playhouse, which ran from October 5, 2004 through January 16, 2005. An original cast recording was made by Rhino Entertainment, Jersey Boys: Original Broadway Cast Recording.

The show's first national tour began on December 10, 2006 at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. That run ended on May 3, 2007 in order to prepare for its Los Angeles premiere at the Ahmanson Theatre. Immediately following, they debuted back at the Curran and their expected to run through September 30, 2007 before changing gears to a new long run at Chicago's LaSalle Bank Theatre through 2008. Jersey Boys won four 2006 Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. Future scheduling will bring the musical into its West End debut at London's Prince Edward Theatre in 2008, with no casting yet announced.

Several musical numbers in the production include: "Silhouettes", "I Can't Give You Anything But Love", "Cry For Me", "I Still Care", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Walk Like A Man", "My Boyfriend's Back", "Bye Bye Baby", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Rag Doll", and "Who Love's You" along with many others. The four 2006 Tony Award Winners were for Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical, and Best Lighting Design of a Musical. Other awards won include the Theatre World Award to John Lloyd Young, Drama Desk Award again to Young for Best Actor in a Musical, and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Sound Design.
