The Story Behind Riverdance

Riverdance is a theatrical show of traditional Irish step dancing. It is known for its rapid leg movements while the body and arms are kept stationary. It was first performed during the interval of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 and received a standing ovation. The performance combines traditional Irish culture, a fabulous soundtrack and out of this world dancing. Riverdance is highly entertaining.

Riverdance is produced and directed by a husband and wife team, John McColgan and Moya Doherty. It first opened in Dublin in November 1994 at Point Theatre. It ran for five weeks and every show sold out. Riverdance came to New York to perform at Radio City Music Hall in March 1996 and was a success.
